Beware of Unwanted Loan Calls
Have you been receiving calls about loan applications you never submitted? You’re not alone. Many people are receiving persistent calls from companies claiming they need more details to process a supposed loan application. Multiple daily calls from different numbers, all with the same story, have been reported. This is a strategy employed by certain unethical companies to promote loans.
Here’s what to do if you receive such calls:
- Hang up immediately: Don’t press any buttons nor “unsubscribe” as it only confirms to the caller that your phone number is active.
- Protect your information: Never give out personal details to businesses you do not recognize, even if they seem to know you. This could be a ploy to obtain your information.
- Use call blocking: Prevent these calls from reaching you in the first place. Many cell phone service providers offer call labeling – a safety feature that automatically tags incoming calls with labels like “potential spam” or “scam likely” on your phone’s screen to indicate their potential risk. If you want to go further, there may be call-blocking apps available for download. Please consult your cell phone’s app store for options.
- Register with the Do Not Call Registry: Sign up for free at the National Do Not Call Registry to reduce unwanted sales calls. While it won’t block all scam calls, it makes it easier to identify potential ones.
