Hanmi Bank now offers credit and debit cards with chip technology. The embedded computer chip provides more security and wider international acceptance.

A microchip embedded in every card adds a new layer of protection against fraud for purchases made at the point of sale. Information programmed into the chip is personalized for your account and each transaction generates a unique code, adding an extra safeguard against unauthorized use and counterfeiting.

These cards are already in wide use around the world and are now becoming the standard in the U.S.

Follow these steps to use your card at a chip-enabled terminal:

  1. Insert your card, face up and chip end into the chip-enabled terminal.
  2. Leave the card in the terminal during the entire transaction.
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen and either sign your name or enter your PIN as needed. Be sure to remove your card and take your receipt when the transaction is complete.

If a merchant isn't using a new chip-enabled terminal yet.

You will 'swipe' your card to make your purchase, just as you do today. EMV chip card will continue to have the magnetic stripe on the back.

Online or phone purchases

Provide your card information as you have done in the past. EMV chip card
will not change the way payments are made online or by telephone.

At an ATM

The process is essentially the same as at a merchant. Insert your card, leave it in the ATM, and follow the prompts on the screen. Depending on the type of ATM, you might be prompted to re-insert your card. Leave the card in the ATM until the transaction is complete and the card is released, and then remove your card. A PIN is needed for ATM transactions.

Who is eligible to join this program?
Any Hanmi Bank checking account customer (either personal or business customer) that has a debit card can join this free program. 

How do I earn points?
When you shop, you earn 1 point for every $2 for each Signature Debit or PIN Debit transaction everywhere your card is accepted.

 Plus, you can earn even more points when you shop at participating retailers. Choose to shop in-store at national or local retailers or online through When shopping in-store, remember to select “Credit” and sign for your purchase to earn additional points.

When can I redeem my points?
It can take up to 40 days for your points to be credited to your account. You must accumulate a minimum of 1,500 points before you can redeem your points. After that, you can redeem them for any number of amazing items. Simply look for “Total Points” at the top of any page to see how many points you have available for redemption.

Can I share points with my family members?
Yes! All cards within the same account automatically earn points together. In addition, if you have multiple debit or credit accounts with Hanmi Bank, you can link them together to earn rewards faster. Simply visit the Profile page to link more accounts to your program.

What can I redeem my points for?
It’s your choice! You can choose from millions of options, whether they be products, travel experiences, activities, event tickets, and more! Visit the Redeem Points page at and click on the category that suits your interests.

We keep track of all the points you earn and will help you find just what you’re looking for when you’re ready to redeem. We even have a Wish List that will help you track when you’ve earned enough to redeem a specific item.

When do my points expire?
Your points will expire three years from the end of the month in which they were posted.

Can I link the Hanmi Rewards Program and the Hanmi Bank Debit Card Rewards Program?
No. Although they are similar in names, the Hanmi Rewards Program is a separate rewards program for our credit card.

Eligibility is restricted to Hanmi Debit Cardholders whose accounts are open, in good standing and has a statement mailing address with the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, United States territories, or United States military address (such as APO).


Point Accrual
  1. Participants will earn one point for every $2 in net purchases by using your debit card to make purchases.  Both PIN-based and SIGNATURE-based transactions qualify.  No retroactive points will accrue. 
  2. Transactions conducted using Hanmi Debit Card for deposits, ATM withdrawals, balance inquires, transfers,  and other checking account inquires are not eligible.  Transactions from lost, cancelled, or stolen Debit Cards; or fraudulent purchases will not earn points.  Participants will not earn points if the Checking Account has been closed.
  3. Returns are subject to the return policy of the retailer form which you made your purchase.  If you return or cancel an item, points are also reversed from that sale.
  4. Exchanges also make purchases ineligible for rewards, as when merchandise is exchanged, the merchant cancels the order and replaces it with a new one.  Since the new order was not made through the program website points cannot be tracked.  Because of this, the retailer will not pass the pints to UChoose Rewards which means UChoose Rewards cannot access the pints to put in your account.
  5. The Program is based on net purchases only and does not included cash advances, balance transfers, or wire transfers.  It also does not include any fees posted to your account, including late fees, over limit fees, and finance charges.
  6. You may earn a maximum of 100,000 points per year.
  7. Points earned during a calendar month are posted to your Reward Points Account by the 10th of the following month.  Qualifying purchases that have not been cleared or posted to your Reward Points Account are not eligible for redemption.
  8. Points will expire 3 (three) years from the end of the month in which they were posted.  Hanmi Bank reserves the right to cancel or temporarily suspend the Program at any time with notice, which may result in the cancellation of outstanding points.
  9. Dollar and cents amounts will be rounded down to the nearest whole dollar amount when calculating points earned.
  10. Point balances are available for view online.
  11. Points cannot be transferred from one Rewards Point Account to another Rewards Point Account.
  12. Points from multiple Accounts may be pooled together.
  13. Points may not be assigned, transferred and/or pledged to any third party.  Participant has no property rights or other legal interest in points.
  14. Participant is responsible for any personal tax liability that may be related to participation in the UChoose Rewards Program.
  15. Hanmi Bank has the right to cancel or temporarily suspend the Program at any time without advance notice, which may result in the cancellation of outstanding points.  Hanmi Bank has the right to change the Program without advance notice.  Changes may affect outstanding transactions and points.
  16. Hanmi Bank has the right to monitor all Rewards Point Account activity and reserves the right to cancel any Program membership in the event of fraud, abuse of program privileges, or violation of the Program rules; including any attempt to sell, exchange, or transfer points, or any instrument exchangeable for points. 
  17. The terms of the Program are void where prohibited by law.


Redeeming Points 

  1. Points may not be redeemed for cash.  No cash refunds or partial awards will be issued upon redemption of points.
  2. Program points may not be used with any other discount or coupon offer.

  5. Points will be redeemable only if your Rewards Points Account is open and in good standing.
  6. Participants must redeem points, but another person may use the ticket(s) or rewards.  The Participant is responsible for any tax liability or other charges related to participation in the Program or redemption of points, and for payment of any taxes or charges.  Examples of such charges include without limitation, baggage charges, departure taxes, or other charges that my have been assessed by government entities.
  7. Hanmi Bank reserves the right to disqualify any Participant from participating in the Program and to invalidate all points for abuse, fraud, or any violation of the Program Terms & Conditions.
  8. Hanmi Bank and the suppliers are not responsible for the replacement of lost, stolen, or damaged documents awarded for the redemption of points.
